in-cosmetics Asia presents educational line-up

This year’s in-cosmetics Asia exhibition will host a programme of educational workshops that are set to tackle some of the most challenging and hotly debated topics within the industry from 6 to 8 November 2012.
Led by world-renowned scientific and personal care experts, the workshops will address the ever-changing landscape of cosmetic regulations – as well as provide up-to-date advice on the latest formulation techniques and innovations to sweep the cosmetics world.

Staying ahead of regulations

Regulations continue to increase across the EU and Asia. With no central regulatory body in existence in Asia, industry players face the constant struggle of keeping up with the latest changes.

A dedicated half-day Regulations Workshop at in-cosmetics Asia will aim to guide manufacturers through the most recent developments and how they will be affected, both now and in the future.

The first session, led by Dr Annelie Struessman – Technical Director of CONUSBAT – will focus on EU: Preparation for the Regulation Implementation. This will provide visitors with essential technical information on the regulations that are set to replace the European Cosmetic Directive in 2013.

China has become the largest internet beauty market in the world, with a 200 percent increase in online purchases since 2006 and record numbers of consumers buying over the internet (Source: Kline).

Mr Wendell Wei of China Gate will assist manufacturers in remaining at the cutting edge of this trend, and one of the world’s biggest cosmetics markets, as he hosts China Focus: What is New? Considering the key hurdles in registering products, Mr Wei’s session will detail requirements for registration, the regulatory agencies involved and their responsibilities – as well as what to expect from upcoming changes.

Confusion continues to reign over the latest Asian regulations and Dr Alain Khaiat of Seers Consulting will address this in, ASEAN – Korea: Overview of Changes. Dr Khaiat’s session will be supported by a presentation from Mrs Le Chau Giang from Johnson & Johnson. Mrs Giang will explore regulatory strategies that raw material suppliers, as well as product manufacturers, can follow in order to successfully enter or innovate in Asia.

Dr Khaiat commented: “This workshop will provide an excellent opportunity to learn, or to refresh, one’s knowledge on the regulatory frameworks in Europe, China, ASEAN and Korea. Regulations are ever changing and everybody within the industry is struggling to remain at the forefront of these changes. This Regulations Workshop is the must-attend session for all regulatory affairs specialists, R&D, business development, or marketing visitors who are looking for new opportunities within these markets.”

All about Haircare

The last year has seen the introduction of a number of innovative haircare products, from anti-ageing shampoos to hair loss tonics. Despite this, industry-led debates remain few and far between.

This year’s in-cosmetics Asia is set to lead the way in this arena, as organisers have announced a stand-alone workshop dedicated to the sector.

The workshop will provide attendees with the latest information on innovative topics such as Hair Physiology, from Dr Vaishali Gode of Marico and Hair Care Sensory Evaluation, led by Dr. Meei-Lih Lin at P&G.

This session has attracted contributions from some of the biggest names from within the industry, including L’Oreal.

With the announcement from its new L’Oreal Hair Research Centre that it is to launch a revolutionary ingredient to awaken dormant hair and enhance hair density, L’Oreal’s Mr Umesh Padke will host an insightful session on the latest Trends in Haircare.

And it doesn’t stop there, as the rest of the workshop will cover an array of updates from leading lights within the Haircare sector, including What’s New in Hair Styling from Dr Chang Wang of DSM; What’s New in Hair Colouring from Sensient and What’s New in Hair Conditioning, hosted by Mrs Christina He of Lubrizol.

Formulation at the forefront

Formulation techniques are key to the cosmetics industry and this is an area in which people are constantly looking to enhance their skills and obtain updates on the latest innovations.

in-cosmetics Asia will host two dedicated formulation streams – The Basic Formulation Workshop and The Advanced Formulation Workshop – run by Dr Luigi Rigano.

The Basic Formulation Workshop will discuss the key steps of formulation strategy in the development of a new product. The workshop will include a cosmetic introduction, covering functions, to ingredients categories and selection – finally moving on to the key steps in formulation strategy for new product development.

The Advanced Formulation Workshop will take discussions up a level, where attendees will be presented with a series of formulation options and their respective hurdles, and follow procedural steps on how to become a self-styled cosmetic formula designer. The workshop will conclude with on-the-spot evaluation discussions and the sharing of the sensory approach between the formulator, marketing team and the consumer.

Keeping it Natural

With the latest research revealing that Asia is the world’s largest market for natural personal care products (Source: Kline), in-cosmetics Asia is delighted to announce the addition of The Interactive Natural and Organic Workshop to its educational programme.

During this hands-on workshop, run by Dr Barbara Olioso of Organatural Cosmetic Developments, attendees will create a natural product, while discussing the issues and challenges encountered along the way.

Exhibition delegates will be encouraged to obtain ‘hero’ ingredients from around the show, which will then be brought together during the session, with a select few taken through to creation.

Dr Olioso will lead discussions on the different possibilities, choices and compromises that come with creating a natural product.

Industry-leading event

Ivan Rahal, Marketing Manager for in-cosmetics Asia, said: “This year’s educational programme will offer the most authoritative information available from within the industry direct to our visitors. From formulation strategy and legislation to innovative workshops on Haircare, the sessions will bring expert knowledge direct to the people helping to shape this ever-changing industry – from experienced formulators to managers of cosmetic product development departments.”

in-cosmetics Asia will place from Tuesday 6 November until Thursday 8 November 2012 at BITEC, Bangkok, Thailand. For more on the educational programme go to www.in-cosmeticsasia.com/educationaprogramme
